A lifetime resident of the area, Bob Schell passed away at the Cornwall Hospice on Saturday, September 23, 2017, following a brief battle with cancer. He was 77.
Bob was born in Williamsburg on December 21, 1939 to his parents Keith “Casey” Schell and Edna Schell (nee Whitteker). He attended Williamsburg public school, then moved onto Morrisburg Collegiate, where he met the love of his life Joan Carole Strader and later married.
Bob started driving truck for Dibblee Construction after working on the home farm. He drove truck for 12 years before moving into the dispatcher position and he held that position until his retirement.
Bob, Joan and the family purchased two cottages in 1989 on Graham Lake near Athens. There they entertained guests and hosted family functions for 28 years. It was not very often that Bob and Joan were in the GWA on summer weekends, unless one of the grandkids was playing in a sporting event.
During the winter months Bob could be found at rinks all across Ontario following his grandkids hockey careers. Bob is survived by his children Lorie Hutt (Mitch) of Williamsburg, Lisa McNairn (Allen) of Morrisburg and Lyle Schell (Kim) of Williamsburg, his brother Larry Schell of Williamsburg and his grandchildren Chelsey, Drew, Matt, Derek, Casey, Kylie and Lacey. He was predeceased by his wife Joan Schell, his infant son, his parents Keith “Casey” and Edna Schell and his brother Doug Schell. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 27th at 11 a.m., with Pastor Roger March officiating. Interment followed at Spruce Haven Cemetery in Brinston. Pallbearers were Drew Hutt, Derek Hutt, Chelsea Schell, Matt McNairn, Casey McNairn and Dave Collins. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Schell, Kylie Schell, Lacey Schell, Charles Bailey, Seymour Hess and Keith Banford.
