Ellen McKeown

Ellen McKeown passed away peacefully at The Hartford Retirement Residence on Sunday, February 26, 2017, two weeks short of her 94th birthday.

A kind, caring person, Ellen, sometimes known as Pat, will be remembered for her smile, her love for her family, and her enjoyment of a game of golf, a card game or a Sunday drive.

Ellen was born in Gaspe, Quebec on March 13, 1923 to the late Daisy (nee Palmer) and Philip Patterson.

She met her partner for life, Lorne McKeown, in Montreal through the youth group at the Anglican Church. They married and settled in Pointe Claire, where they built a house and made it a home for their three children for twenty-five years.

On an outing one day, they drove through Morrisburg and ended up buying 75 acres and a run down house. Lorne’s job was transferred to Toronto, so they renovated the Morrisburg farmhouse on weekends.

After a few years Lorne was transferred to Cornwall and Ellen and Lorne were finally able to make Morrisburg their home. Eventually they bought what they hoped was their forever home across from the Morrisburg golf course and enjoyed watching the golfers when they weren’t out playing themselves.

Ellen and Lorne always enjoyed traveling. They took their young family traveling and camping for years. After the kids left home, they made annual trips south to Florida for the winter for some twenty-three years.

With two of their children living in BC, they also crisscrossed the U.S. and Canada often to visit.

Beloved wife of the late Lorne Meredith McKeown (2014), Ellen will be missed by her family. She is survived by her children Valerie (Dave) Skjonsberg of Cranbrook, BC, Karen McKeown (Dave Bustard) of Smithers, BC and Lawrence (Lori) McKeown of Morrisburg. Cherished grandmother of Denise Bustard (Ben Domaschenz) of Calgary, AB, Patrick (Andrea) Bustard of Victoria, BC and Jesse McKeown of Morrisburg and step-grandmother of Alan and Lisa Trumble of Morrisburg. Loving great-grandmother of Kai Domaschenz of Calgary, AB. Dear sister of Maxwell (Carolyn) Patterson of Burlington, Gwendolyn MacKenzie of Moncton, NB, Nelson (Marilyn) Patterson of Aurora and sister-in-law Della Patterson of Burlington.

Predeceased by brothers Herbert, Launcelot, Owen, Cyril and Everett Patterson. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be in St. James Anglican Cemetery, Morrisburg at a later date. Condolences may be made at www.parkerofmorrisburg.com. Memorial donations can be made in Ellen’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
