PRESCOTT – The North Dundas Demons played in the South Grenville Novice B Rep tourney on January 21st.
The Demons faced off against an unknown opponent, the Ottawa Blues, in a back-and-forth match for the first five minutes.
The Blues opened scoring at 4:30 in the first. They then added one more on a power-play to lead 2-0 at the end of the period.
Ottawa added three goals in the second period to take a 5-0 lead. The Demons spoiled the Blues’ shutout with a goal by Ben Drew. The 5-1 loss put the Demons into the ‘B’ side for the remainder of the tournament.
The Demons met a familiar foe in the ‘B’ division semifinal, the Brockville Braves. Jake Weber scored for the Demons off a pass from Colin Epps to take a one goal lead.
The Demons were able to keep the Braves pinned in their own end to make a critical shift change. With fresh legs on the ice against a tired Braves squad, Conner England scored to give the Demons a 2-0 lead.
With 6:32 left in the third, England scored an unassisted goal to give the Demons a 3-0 lead and the win. Goalie Owen Conlin had the shutout for the Demons who moved on to the ‘B’ final against rival Kemptville Panthers.
Luke Larussa put the Demons on the board with 2:58 left in the first off a pass from Merrick Crawford, Demons led 1-0.
Jake Weber made it 2-0, beating the Panthers goalie with 4.5 seconds left in the period. Weber was assisted by Shane Epps and Cole Jones.
The trio sent another into the Panthers’ net just 15 seconds into the second period. The Panthers countered, scoring late in the second to make it 3-1 after two periods.
Kemptville rallied in the third to bring the Panthers to within one of the Demons with 3:29 left in the final.
Weber finished off his natural hat-trick, scoring with 1:52 left in play, giving the Demons some breathing room, and the win.
The North Dundas Demons leave Prescott as ‘B’ champs.
The Demons return to regular season action, hosting the South Grenville Rangers January 25th at the Morrisburg arena, 6 p.m. start.
