ATHENS – Wyatt Barkley and Cole Eikelboom combined for four points as the South Dundas Lions Peewee B Rep team defeated the Leeds Chargers 6-4 in Athens at the Centre 76 arena December 28th.
The Chargers got on the board early in the first with a goal by Liam O’Brien, Chargers lead 1-0. Leeds forward Grayson Coleman put another one past Lions goalie Jacob Greig, Chargers lead 2-0.
Colin Verbruggen put the Lions on the board late in the first off a pass from Eikelboom, 2-1 Chargers at the end of the period.
The Lions put three in the net in the second with goals by Cameron Lynch – assisted by Jordan Heuff, Monty DeJong – assisted by Sean Nicolaassen, and Spencer Barclay – assisted by Wyatt
Barkley. South Dundas led 4-2 at the end of the second period.
The third period had two quick goals by Chargers forwards Eric Judson and O’Brien early, tying the game a four-apiece. In what was a more physical period for both teams, a total of 20 penalty minutes was assessed, 10 apiece for each team.
Eikelboom broke the tie for the Lions with 4:07 left on the clock off a pass from Spencer Billings, Lions lead 5-4. Just 11 seconds later off the puck drop, Barkley scored the unassisted game-winning goal for South Dundas. Final score, South Dundas Lions 6, Leeds Chargers 4.
