Seaway girls hockey win one, lose two

The Seaway District High School girls hockey team took on the North Dundas Blue Devils in the third of game of the day at the Chesterville arena December 14th. Seaway defeated North Dundas

CHESTERVILLE — The Seaway District High School girls hockey team started off their 2016-17 season at the Chesterville arena on December 14th winning one, losing two.

École secondaire catholique La Citadelle shut out Seaway 3-0 in the first game of the day.

The Spartans took on the Holy Trinity Falcons in the second game, losing 6-2. Anna Henderson scored an unassisted goal in the first period while  Martina Lewis scored in the second, assisted by Maddie Hummel.

Seaway’s last game of the day was against Dundas county rivals, the North Dundas Blue Devils.

The Spartans shut out North Dundas 4-0. Scoring for Seaway were Anna Henderson (unassisted), Grace Brooks (assisted by Shayna VanBeilen and Amber Bailey), Ashley Hanna  (unassisted), and Sierra Swindells (unassisted). Goalie Michaela Mustard had the shutout win in net.

After the first of four league tournament days, Seaway stands in fourth place with 2 points.

Regular season play resumes in January for the Spartan girls team. The team travels to Petawawa December 21st for the Valour Voyagers invitational tournament. In 2015, the Seaway girls team won the ‘B’ division. This is the second year Seaway will participate in the tournament.  Results will be in the next issue of The Leader.
