A resident of the Park Drive Villa in Williamsburg for the past 8.5 years, Barbara Wells passed away at the Cornwall Hospice on Saturday, October 8, 2016, following a brief battle with cancer. She was 79.
Barbara was born in Williamsburg Township on June 25, 1937, to her parents Howard and Alice Tupper (nee Barclay).
Barbara grew up on the family farm which helped to mold her into the hard working individual she was.
Barbara’s greatest joys came from her family, caring for others and teaching.
She did her teacher training in Ottawa and her first teaching position was in Lunenburg. She also taught in Mariatown, Williamsburg and Elma before she retired in 1993.
Barbara was a volunteer extraordinaire.
She canvassed for the Heart & Stroke Foundation for many years as well as the Renewing the vision campaign for the Winchester Hospital and her boundless energy made her a valuable member of several local organizations including the Brownies, Meals on Wheels, Calgary Reads, Williamsburg Community Association, Park Drive Villa Board of directors and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
Barbara’s pleasant demeanour, welcoming spirit and delicious baking will be greatly missed by her friends and family both here at home and in Calgary.
Barbara is survived by her husband Hubert, her daughters Susan Yuen (Les) of Calgary, Sheryl Harper (late Rodger) of Williamsburg, Connie Wells of Williamsburg and Janice Hoeppner (Ken) of Calgary, her siblings Bill Tupper (Joan Hess) of Morrisburg, Betty Dillabough (late Ralph) of Williamsburg, Anna Poulin of Ottawa, Roger Tupper (Jean) of Morrisburg, Steven Tupper (Edna) of South Mountain and Philip Tupper (Cathy) of Williamsburg and her sister-in-law Marion Linton (Burt) of Brockville.
