Albert Claxton

A resident of Winchester for the past 18 years, Diana Heuvel passed away suddenly at home on Monday, January 21, 2013.  She was 61.

Diana was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, on July 23, 1951, to her parents Charles and Agnes Heuvel (nee Sterenberg) and she moved with her family to Hanesville, in 1952.

Everyone who knew Diana has fond memories of her.  

Her caregivers’ memories include: hearing her reading her book out loud in the living room and her saying “No, don’t say no to Diana”; hearing the pitter patter of her feet when she would run down the hall after she had just snagged a pop that she wasn’t supposed to have; seeing her scrunch up her face and squeeze her eyes closed when she was having her picture taken; her giggle when the staff would tickle her; and the sense of her love and warmth she showed when she would hold a baby.  

Diana was a funny, sweet, gentle and strong willed lady who her caregivers will all miss and never forget.  Lessons learned from her-would be to enjoy the simple everyday things, take risks and laugh daily.

Diana loved getting dressed up in her dresses and skirts to go to church and to dances.  She liked to go bowling, and she especially enjoyed the Cheezies and pop that followed.  

She also enjoyed going to Friendship group, swinging on the swing, and writing. Those who have worked with Diana know she liked to play the organ, even if it was just to get someone else’s goat.  

Diana is survived by her siblings Walter (Hennie) Heuvel of R.R.# 2 Iroquois and Anne (Henry) Pal of Calgary. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Charles and Agnes Heuvel, and brothers John and Jake Heuvel.  

Diana will be sadly missed by all her extended family at Community Living Dundas County.    

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg, on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  Funeral Service was held at Williamsburg Christian Reformed Church on Friday, January 25th at 11 a.m.  Interment followed at New Union Cemetery, Williamsburg.  

Pallbearers were Ray Heuvel, Rob Heuvel, Dave Heuvel, Gary Heuvel, Darren Heuvel and Trevor Heuvel.

Anna Cornelia Maria Wynands, 92, of Iroquois, passed into eternal life suddenly on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Winchester District Memorial Hospital.

Anna was born in Amsterdam on June 8, 1920, to the late Eeltje and Catherina vanBakelen.  She married Jan Feddema on January 27th, 1949, and together they immigrated to Calgary in January 1953. Anna was widowed in April 1953.

The following year, she moved with her three children to Cardinal, Ontario, where she married Johan Gerhard “Gerald” Wynands on May 23rd, 1959.  Anna and Gerald lived and farmed in Cardinal for 28 years before retiring to Iroquois.

Anna and Gerald had two more children together, and made their farm an oasis of hospitality, welcoming with open arms, not only visitors from Calgary and the Netherlands, but also a dozen foster children.  

In 1982, Anna and Gerald were honoured for 15 years as foster parents.  

Whether children or houseplants, everything and everyone Anna touched seemed to thrive under her care. She enjoyed the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took a lively, sympathetic and cheerful interest in the joys and trials of all her extended family.  She had a quick sense of humour and the ability to find a smile in every circumstance.

Anna was continually sewing, knitting and crafting for her family and friends.  Visitors never left her home without some evidence of her generosity and skill. 

Each family birthday or holiday was marked by the arrival of one of her handcrafted, hand written cards, and she enjoyed corresponding with distant friends and family. 

Anna was a long-time member of the Catholic Women’s League and an active member of St. Cecilia Church in Iroquois.  She will be sorely missed by her friends there as well as those in her crafting group and in her community.

Anna is survived by her husband, Gerald, and her children, Trudy (Bill) Whittaker of Lyndhurst, Adrian (Carol) of North Augusta, Edward (Janet) of Lyn, Maria (Gary) Ferguson of Jasper, John (Dawn) of Cardinal, and by her brother Cor (Allie) vanBakelen of Amsterdam, Holland.  

She is fondly remembered by 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Anna is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, in both Holland and Canada.

Friends called at the Marsden McLaughlin Funeral Home in Iroquois on Thursday, December 6, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  Mass of the Christian Burial took place in St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church in Iroquois, on Friday, December 7, at 11:30 a.m. 

Donations to St. Cecilia’s Church or Winchester Hospital would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.  

Interment took place at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Cardinal.  Pall bearers were six of her grandchildren, Richard Whittaker, Christina, Ryan and John Wynands, and Thomas and Nicole Ferguson.

A lifetime resident of the Williamsburg area, Eva Colqhoun passed away at the Cornwall Community Hospital on Tuesday, December 3, 2013.  She was 79.

Eva was born in Williamsburg Township, on September 15, 1934, to her parents George and Lillian Colquhoun (nee Stillson). 

Eva was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend whose main focus in life was her family.  

She will be fondly remembered as a hard working lady who always had a smile on her face.   

Eva is survived by her daughters Marilyn (Gordon) Andrusiak of Ottawa and Debbie (Richard) Mackay-Smith of Kingston, and by her siblings Marion Johnston of Boucks Hill, Helen (Clair) Empey of Williamsburg, Edna (Lee) Barkley of R.R.# 2 Chesterville, Riley of R.R.# 2 Williamsburg and Dorothy Lapierre of Morrisburg.

Eva will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Michael (Claire), Matthew (Allie), Jennifer, Corey (Melissa), Leanne and great-grandchildren Ava, Olivia, Emma and Zoey. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.  

Eva was predeceased by her brother Sanford, his wife Jackie and her brothers-in-law Ferneley Johnston and George Lapierre.       

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  Funeral Service was held at the funeral home on Saturday, December 7th at 11 a.m., with Rev. Isabel Black officiating. 

Interment was at New Union Cemetery, Williamsburg.  

Pallbearers were Dale Casselman, Gary Barkley, Jim Crowder, Carl Lapierre, Doug French and Adam Barkley.
