Ten from South Dundas make Jr. C Lions roster

A new team is on the roster for the 2016-17 Morrisburg Junior C Lions with 10 players named from South Dundas.

The final roster was announced on September 20th by the team staff. There are no players returning from the previous season.

“All in all, the team looks to be competitive,” said team general manager Kevin Casselman.

The team roster this season consists of forwards Matthew Bissel (Madoc ON), Anthony Caserta (Perth ON), Austin Coleman (Long Sault ON), Jeremy DaPonte (Saint-Lazare QC), Joshua DeSousa (Saint-Lazare QC), Tyler Eldridge (Cornwall ON), Brett Ellis (Stittsville ON), Spencer Heldens (Iroquois ON), Randy Keller (Morrisburg ON), Patrick Landry (Vaudreuil-Dorion QC), Justin Laundrie (Cornwall ON), Zach Leblanc (Orleans ON), Anthony Pace (Maxville ON), Josh Primeau (Cornwall ON) and Tyler Stockman (Morrisburg ON).

The defence for the team is made up of Quinn Bennis (Morrisburg ON), Ronnie Boots (Akwesasne ON), Cole Fowler (Morrisburg ON), Tanner Hummel (Morrisburg ON), Evan Mantha (Morrisburg ON), Jordan Smail (Iroquois ON) and Jordan St. Louis (Morrisburg ON).

Between the pipes this year are goaltenders Drew Nichol (Long Sault, ON) and Eric Mantha (Morrisburg ON).

The team opened their 2016-17 season in the National Capital District Hockey League with a 5-3 loss to the Vankleek Hill Cougars at the Canadian International Hockey Academy arena  on September 24th.  

The Lions were down 4-3 with a minute left in the third when coach Joe Hummel pulled goaltender Drew Nichols from net to get the man advantage.

The Cougars capitalized with an empty net goal in the dying seconds of the game to seal Morrisburg’s fate. Final score, Vankleek Hill Cougars 5, Morrisburg Lions 3.

The Lions travel to the Embrun arena on September 30th to face the Embrun Panthers before hosting the North Dundas Rockets in their home opener on October 1st. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m. at the Morrisburg arena.
