Effective August 22, 2016, South Dundas will have a new fire chief.
Cameron Morehouse is being appointed South Dundas director of fire and emergency services.
South Dundas issued a media release regarding the new hire at the July 19 council meeting.
Although the title is a little different, the duties of the director of fire and emergency services are the same as those of the former fire chief. Morehouse was most recently fire chief for Lanark Highlands. Prior to that, he was fire chief for Bonnechere Valley Fire Department and was deputy fire chief with Augusta Fire Department. He has more than 20 years firefighting experience.
"Mr. Morehouse will bring a wealth of experience to the position," said South Dundas mayor Evonne Delegarde. "We look forward to welcoming him to South Dundas."
"I look forward to working with Council, members of South Dundas Fire & Emergency Services and all staff to protect the health and well-being of residents," said Morehouse. "I am also looking forward to continuing the positive fire prevention initiatives being done in the Municipality."
This week, it was also announced that Chris McDonough, former fire chief for South Dundas Fire and Emergency Services, has landed a similar role in a new community.
Monday, McDonough was hired by The Municipality of Central Elgin as Director of Fire Rescue Services/Fire Chief/ CEMC Emergency Planner for the Corporation of the Municipality of Central Elgin.
There, McDonough's fire chief role will make him part of that community's senior management team. He starts August 2nd.
To that role, McDonough takes with him almost 30 years of experience, including having been South Dundas. fire chief for the last five years.
His tenure as South Dundas fire chief ended January 14, 2016, when he was placed on leave. McDonough was the first fire chief for South Dundas' amalgamated fire services.
