Minor hockey fees unchanged, some new faces on the executive

For the second consecutive year, David Lapier will be back at the helm of the South Dundas Minor Hockey Association.

Lapier, who was not present, was reelected at the association’s annual general meeting this year held at Morrisburg Public School on Wednesday, April 27.

There were few changes to the minor hockey executive.

One of two new faces is that of Randy Mullin who is taking over as the Head Coach position from Mike Domanko who retired from the position along with the 1st Vice President position.

The second is Joe McCooeye who took over as Equipment Manager from John Connors who moved to the 1st Vice president position.

Jamie Smith returned as 2nd vice president, Mike Barclay as treasurer and Johanna Kronstal as secretary. Jeff van Moorsel is past president.

Jason Broad is continuing as Ice Scheduler, and Cassandra Barry will continue to be chair of Rules and Discipline as well as Registrar.

Lisa Schwerdtfeger returns as Registrar and Leslie McCann returns to the Fundraiser position.

Matt McCooeye remains the Association’s Electronic Communications officer.

All the positions were filled by acclamation.

Good news for all minor hockey families is that owing to a reasonably successful season, once again membership fees will not be raised.

Until July 1, Initiation fees remain the same at $400 per player, Novice and Atom remain at $600 and Peewee, Bantam and Midget remain at $650.

After July 1, the fees at every level rise by $100.

Registrar Cassandra Barry reported at the meeting that thanks to early registration nights in February (two) and March (three), and participation at the South Dundas registration day, “we are probably about half registered already.”

This is good news for any minor association as they have to declare the teams and level of play to UCMHL in July.

“The early registrations were well received, and our parents were very happy,” said Barry.

“I have also heard that many were happy to be able to write the smaller [post-dated] cheques,” said secretary Johanna Kronstal. “We have kept our rates the same for several years now.”

Families registering are provided the option of making monthly payments with post-dated cheques.

Barry has two more registrations both at the Morrisburg Arena and both from 9 a.m. until noon. The first is on Saturday, May 21 and the second on Saturday, June 25.

Those unable to make either are asked to email her at sdmharegistrar@gmail.com to make other arrangements.  It is very important that all youngsters are registered by the end of mail in order to determine and declare teams for the 2016-17 teams for the July league deadline.
