Jumpin’ & Jivin’ for WDMH, the return of the Winchester District Memorial Hospital Foundation’s gala fundraiser, is fast approaching, and those planning to attend the May 14th event are encouraging others to join them in what promises to be a great night.
Dr. Marilyn Crabtree, a physician at Winchester District Memorial Hospital and the St. Lawrence Medical Clinic, is looking forward to the fun she knows will come along with the WDMH Gala. “There aren’t too many opportunities around to have a night out like this,” she says.
Dr. Wayne Domanko and Dr. Paul Coolican are the MCs for the event, and Crabtree says they are always funny and usually come up with something unexpected.
What Crabtree does expect is a lot of fun with the 50s theme.
“The auction usually features some pretty neat stuff too,” she adds.
In terms of fundraising, Crabtree knows first hand of the importance of the WDMH Foundation fundraising efforts.
“The Ministry has taken quite a bite out of the funding, and with that the hospital is doing its best to be as efficient as possible, all the while continuing to add new programs,” she says.
Along with that, Crabtree points out that it’s been 11 years since the new building was constructed, meaning that as the building ages, money needs to be spent on maintenance and that hospital equipment that gets well used also needs to be maintained and upgraded.
In medicine, most equipment items purchased are six figure items, meaning that significant funds need to be raised for these purchases to make their way into the hospital for the benefit of its patients.
An upcoming purchase is likely to be medicine dispensing cabinets that are linked into the hospital computer system.
“I always like to support Winchester District Memorial Hospital,” says Crabtree. “Not only has this hospital supported me as a physician, it is also the hospital where I take my family for care.”
She explained that she originally came to WDMH because she liked the feeling.
“It has always been like family looking after family. It’s like home,” says Crabtree. “We have a good thing going here, and I would like to do what I can to keep it, and to take care of it.”
She hopes others will join her in supporting our hospital.
