Deputy chiefs supporting new full-time Director of Fire and Emergency Services

South Dundas council has officially given the go-ahead to hire a new full-time fire chief for the municipality.

While the job title will now be Director of Fire and Emergency Services, the duties of this person are the same as the duties of the fire chief position, which has been vacant since January 14, 2016.

According to the latest draft of the job description, “Director of Fire and Emergency Services is responsible for the overall operation of fire services including; administration, policy development, operational procedures, fire suppression/investigation, fire prevention and public education, emergency medical responses, community emergency planning, health and safety, public relations, ensuring compliance with the Ontario Fire Code, Municipal bylaws and provincial and federal legislation in the municipality.”

South Dundas council held a special meeting March 29th to give its three deputy fire chiefs the opportunity to provide feedback regarding the job description.

This four page job description was significantly reduced in size from the original 12 page draft presented  to council at its last meeting.
