Seaway High’s Cupcakes for Cuties to support local SPCA

For the second consecutive year, students at Seaway District High School will be satisfying their sweet tooth all the while helping an animal in need.

Coming up on Monday, February 29, under the kind and caring hands of organizers Sophia Currier and Kendra Buter, the second annual Cupcakes for Cuties will raise money for the Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Branch of the SPCA.

“We will be selling cupcakes for $1, and will also be taking donations,” says Currier in an e-mail.

Last year’s event raised over $350, and Buter and Currier are hoping to match or beat that figure this year.

For the event, the girls will be contacting the SPCA in Cornwall in the hopes that they will be able to bring in an animal that is available for adoption.

It this doesn’t work out, an alternative plan will see Sophia with her family rescue dog, rescued just recently from the South Dundas Animal Shelter/pound.

Sadly, Currier’s family lost their SPCA rescued dog Tuffy on New Years Eve.

“This event is important to me, as my family are all animal lovers,” says Currier. “We have three rescued cats and our rescued dog.”

“I would like everyone to know that the donations the students and the community will make will support others dogs like Tuffy who are up for adoption at the SPCA. Hopefully, this event will help raise awareness for the problem of animal cruelty and help people realize that the animals deserve a second chance at a life filled with love.”

Co-hosting the Cupcakes for Cuties (SPCA fundraiser) is Kendra Buter whose family members are also animal lovers.

Together Buter and Currier, along with some wonderful supporters, will be baking a whopping 200 plus cupcakes.

In addition to cash donations, they will accept donations of animal food/treats (cat, dog, rabbit, Guinea Pig), and other items needed by the SPCA for the care of the animals such as used towels and bedding, dog and cat toys, stuffed animals, scratching posts, blue or black ink pens, disinfecting wipes and powdered laundry soap.

All donations can be dropped off at the school. Cash donations can be made at the school on Monday, February 29 or online at Ontario SPCA Cupcake Day and search for the Seaway District High School team.

National Cupcake Day™ is a coordinated Canadian event to support local shelters, SPCAs, and Humane Societies. In 2015, animal lovers across Canada raised over $550,000 in support of their favourite societies. Each and every donation makes a difference for an animal in need.
