Junior Lions collect third win

 

The Morrisburg Junior B Lions entertained their hometown fans here Saturday night, January 30, with a 5-2 victory over the St. Isidore Eagles who are in second place in the South Division of the National Capital Hockey League. 

Making it a big win for the Lions was the fact that is was just their third win of the season, and it comes with less than a handful of games left in the regular season.

After a scoreless first period, the Lions put it together with three goals in the second to lead  the Eagles, 3-1 heading into the third.

Another two goals to the Eagles one in the third, gave them the 5-2 victory.

Jordan Smail got it rolling for the Lions with an unassisted goal at 4:41 of the second period.

At 6:17 Brodey Casselman and  Cody Dietschweiler provided the setup for a Spencer Heldens counter that put the Lions up 2-0.

The Eagles got one back at 7:45, when Nick Souligny got his first of two against Lions goaltender Keiran Weir.

With just over a minute left in the second period Curtis Evan, assisted by Jeremy DaPonte, made it 3-1 Lions.

The Lions held on to their 3-1 lead until late in the third period when Chris Spicer scored on the Lions power play to push it to 4-1 with help from DaPonte and Evans.

Souligny cut the Lions lead in half with 3:04 left on the clock, but Justin Rousseau answered that to give the Lions the 5-2 victory.

Sunday, January 31, the Lions were on the road to play the Papineauville Vikings.

Scoring the Lions goals in the 8-2 loss were Austin Coleman and Chris Spicer. Both goals were scored in the third period.

The Vikings led 2-0 after the first period and carried a 5-0 advantage into the third.

Coming up this Saturday, February 6, the Lions are in Chesterville, to play the North Dundas Rockets.
