South Dundas fire chief on leave

Effective January 14, 2016, South Dundas Fire and Emergency Services is without a full time fire chief.

“The fire chief is on leave until further notice,” South Dundas chief administrative officer/treasurer Shannon Geraghty confirmed for The Leader on Friday afternoon.

According to Geraghty, “the fire stations have been advised to continue with the operations and that further direction will be forthcoming.”

Asked whether the leave was initiated by the municipality or the fire chief, Geraghty said, “I cannot comment.”

Chris McDonough, the fire chief now on leave, could not comment on the matter either.

The rumour about the fire chief’s leave came on the heels of a special council meeting held January 12, at the South Dundas Municipal Centre in Morrisburg.

After an open meeting of council with local MPP Jim McDonell, South Dundas council went in camera for personnel matters.

As of press time, the Municipality had not yet come forward with any official announcement or reason for the leave.
