1st place Rebels block Lions

The “Terrdale Farms” Atom B Lions hosted the first place Char-Lan Rebels on December 19th, with the game ending 5-2 in favour of the Rebels.

This was the third and final regular season game versus the Rebels who took the previous two meetings. The 5-2 victory gave them the regular season sweep.

Unlike their last battle back on December 1st in Char-Lan, the Lions matched the Rebels’ speed from the drop of the puck,

The Rebels struck first, with 5:48 left in the first period, on a goal by Addison MacDonell, assisted by Jack Vandrish.

Sam Connors, unassisted, tied it with 3:54 left, and Lions goaltender Quade Mullin kept it that way with a huge save with 39 seconds left.

Colby Lauzon put the Rebels up 2-1 at the seven minute mark of the second period, and Vandrish increased it to 3-1.

Monty Dejong  narrowed the deficit to 3-2 when he scored unassisted with 4:07 left in the frame but Dylan Levac restored the Rebels two-goal lead when he was left alone in front. The Lions entered the third period trailing 4-2.

Kloe Lewis had a glorious midway into the third when she stepped onto the ice during a line change and was the recipient of a breakaway pass at centre ice.

Lewis skated in hard, and, with a backchecking Rebel on her tail, she let go a nice low shot, but had it turned away by Nicholas Baird.

Kieren McLeod gave the Rebels a little more breathing room making it 5-2 with at 5:02, left in the game.

Despite the loss, there were some encouraging signs with the Lions positional play.

The line of Cam Shaver, Lewis, and Nick Connors had the Rebels on their heels for a few shifts as they forechecked hard.

The Lions “Game Champ” was Shaver for his relentless attack on the Rebel players.

The Lions were on the road Tuesday night against third place South Stormont.
