South Dundas Spooky Fun Run

Over 130 runners pre-registered for this year’s South Dundas Spooky Fun Run, held at Earl Baker Park on Sunday morning, October 18.

The 2015 Fun Run was organized by the Playground Committee. Runners raised $2,500 at the family event, according to spokesperson, Mike Domanko.

The money will be used to maintain and upgrade Earl Baker Park, a popular and very attractive family destination. The new splash pad and washrooms in the Park were just opened this spring: volunteers care for walkways and the many flower beds.

“The emphasis of our event has switched somewhat,” said Domanko, “towards participation and an active life style. We want people to come out and enjoy the  Park and stay active.”

This year the committee decided to encourage more fun run participation by area children by offering schools a prize based on the number of runners they could bring out to take part in Sunday’s event.

St.Mary’s-St. Cecilia’s took $300 with 17 participants. Iroquois Public School won $150 with 15 runners, while Seaway District High School was also awarded $150 for bringing out 13 participants.

Although October 18 was  sunny, it was definitely a little on the brisk side. Runners competed in two, five and 10 kilometre distances.

At the end, there was chocolate milk and treats for the runners (and some TLC from volunteers from Lakeshore Massage Therapy for those who may have overdone their racing efforts).

Sponsors for the 2015 Spooky Fun Run were Tyler Darrach, KBD Transport and the Municipality of South Dundas.
