Brent Lapier

Marian Smollett, in her 83rd year, passed away peacefully at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on November 5, 2011, following a brief struggle with cancer.

Marian (nee O’Meara) was the beloved wife of Ray Smollett and loving mother of Gail Flinn (David), Gwen McGill (Rod), Joyce Bartholomew (Wayne) all of Iroquois, Brenda Millward (Ian) of Morrisburg and Helen Hawley (Doug) of Kingston.

She was the cherished grandma of Melissa Flinn, Sarah, Kristy and Nicholas McGill (Lesley), Kelly Redden (Sean), Josh Bartholomew, Ty and Reagan Hawley and dear great-grandmother of Shayna, Sawyer, Madeline, Katherine, Quinton and Gavin. She was dear sister of Joan Williams of Calgary.

Marian will be missed by her nieces and nephews and by her good friends Marlene, Judy, Mary and Timmy.

Family was very important to Marian. She truly enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A longtime member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Marian was a dedicated Sunday school teacher for many years. She belonged to the Presbyterian Women’s Group and participated in many enjoyable activities. 

She was a volunteer canvasser for various charities for many years.

From a young age, Marian had a special love for animals. She also enjoyed watching and feeding the birds.

Friends visited the family at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home on November 7.

The funeral service took place at Knox Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, November 8, at 11 a.m. In honour of her Scottish heritage Marian was piped in and out of the church.

Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Sarah, Kristy, Nicholas, Josh, Melissa and Ty. Internment was at Knox Cemetery, followed by a luncheon in the Church Hall.

Memorial donations were made to the SPCA and Knox Church.

It is with much sadness that his family announces the death of Charles Toupin of R.R.# 1 Morrisburg, who passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at the age of 65 years.  

Charlie will be sadly missed by his wife Christine Munro Toupin, his children Tracey Myers (Bill) of Cardinal, Leslie Terry (Paul) of Belleville, Julie Peck of Nova Scotia and Christian Heaton of Kanata.

Charles was loving Grandpa of Brittney Myers, Billy Myers, Auston Wickware, Sedona Terry, James Peck and Patrick Peck.

Raised in Cardinal, Charlie is the beloved son of Lorna Toupin of Cardinal and the late Charles Toupin Sr.  

He was dear brother of Rick Toupin (Brenda) of Nova Scotia and Ivan Toupin (Nancy) of Cardinal. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Charlie was predeceased by his daughter Tammy Toupin Wickware, his son Andrew Heaton, his sister Mary Lafontaine and his brother Peter Arthur Toupin.

 Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Cardinal, on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11 a.m.. The service was conducted by Rev. Bruce Thompson.  

Interment of cremated remains followed at St. John’s Riverside Cemetery in Cardinal.

A longtime resident of Iroquois, Mary Elizabeth Ace died peacefully at the Sherwood Park Manor, Brockville, on Monday, November 17, 2014.  She was in her 91st year.  

Mary was born in Swansea, Wales, to the late John and Sarah Ace (Wheale) and came to Canada with her family in 1926.

She attended Dundela Public School and Iroquois High School.  Mary began her career, in the early 1940’s, with the Federal Government (Stats Can) and remained until she retired in the late seventies. In 1990, she moved to Iroquois.

Mary loved watching the river from her front porch, she loved animals and always had at least two cats. Mary travelled often until she retired, and loved be with family.

Due to ill health, she moved to Sherwood Park Manor in 2009, where she remained until her passing.  

Mary is survived by her dear sister-in-law, Hazel Ace of Iroquois.  

She was predeceased by her brothers Wallace, Dick, Clifford, Albert, her sister Eileen Merkley, her sister-in-law Lola Ace and her nephew Jack Ace.

Mary will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews; Wally Ace, David Ace, Debbie Ace, Linda Scrivens, Pat Ace, Nancy Ace and by several great nieces and nephews.

Friends called at the Marsden McLaughlin Funeral Home in Iroquois, on Thursday, November 20, 2014, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m.  The service was conducted by Rev Sue McCullough.  Interment followed at St. John’s Anglican Cemetery in Iroquois. 

Pallbearers were Wally Ace, David Ace, Jason Wagner, Jerry Wagner, Tom Holmes, Bryce Fournier, Andrew Hart and Paul Petersen.
