On April 19th, the South Dundas Shuffleboard Club called a time out from playing to present a generous donation of $500 to the Dundas County Food Bank. Club president Cecil McDermott and club treasurer Frank McKenney presented the donation to food bank treasurer Dave King and food bank vice-chair Terry Triskle. The South Dundas Shuffleboard Club meets every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. at Matilda Hall in Dixon’s Corners.

While many area residents were relieved to see a little rain on Monday, some were faced with the inconvenience of a prolonged power outage.
Due to the July 23 storm, several homes in South Dundas powered by Hydro One lost power early Monday evening, including sections of Church Road, Glen Becker Road, Dunbar Road and County Road 31.
According to Hydro One Winchester, 1,842 customers were without power in the areas served by the Winchester location, including residents of South Dundas.
Hydro One crews were dispatched to several locations to investigate. As of mid-morning on July 24, a direct cause had not yet been identified.
It was suggested however, that with a storm similar to the one on July 23, there is usually a ‘laundry list’ of possibilities including branches on lines and downed poles.
It was estimated that power would be returned by 6 p.m. Tuesday night, leaving some without power for almost 24 hours.
This story was ongoing and not yet resolved as of press time.
Funds from the John Stewart Estate Memorial Trust were delivered to Dundas County recipients Friday at the Dundas County Food Bank’s Winchester location.
The Dundas County Food Bank received $1,200. Meals on Wheels, which serves Morrisburg and Iroquois, and the J.W. MacIntosh Seniors Support Centre in Williamsburg each received $490 from the estate.
All were very grateful to receive the contributions in support of each of their programs.
“The board looks most at need,” said Estella Rose, advisory board member. Contributions are made to other groups throughout the United Counties and the City of Cornwall. In total, $8,505.91 worth of grants were made through the program to 13 organizations. The grants ranged in size from $490 to $1,200.
The money for the annual grants is investment income derived from the sale in 1991 of the John Stewart Home, once located in Cornwall. The home was opened in 1930 as a modest facility to provide housing for poor and indigent persons.
To date, over $192,000 in income has been distributed to appropriate agencies. This is the 110th anniversary of John Stewart’s death.
