Road trip for Leo Boivin Showcase

MORRISBURG – The annual Leo Boivin International Midget AAA Showcase is heading east. With the arena in Prescott shut down until a replacement is built, the showcase committee is continuing the four-day showcase tournament which will be hosted at the Morrisburg Arena.

Organizers announced August 31st that the Morrisburg Arena will host the event March 21st to the 24th, 2019.

“I want to thank the entire committee for their hard work on an ongoing basis, and for everything they are doing to keep the tournament alive in Morrisburg,” said Prescott mayor Brett Todd.

The tournament started in 1972 and is entering its 46th year. Players from as far away as Latvia have played in the international 16 team tournament.

“I really just need to thank all of our user groups who were happy to give up their ice time in order to be able to host this event,” said Ben Macpherson, director of recreation and facilities. “They were quick to get back to me and work with me to sort out concerns they might have had.”

As a result, the ice season at the Morrisburg Arena will be extended an extra week to accommodate the Morrisburg and District Skating Club’s annual show, and any potential Morrisburg Jr. C Lions playoff games.

“Everyone recognizes what a tournament of this caliber will bring to the community but more importantly, a lot of our users have been around the Leo Boivin Tournament and know the value it holds for all involved,” Macpherson said. “It gives us a chance to keep a highly respected tournament going and gives Prescott a chance to figure out their next steps without having to worry about the tournament folding.”
