A lifetime resident of the area, Charles Alexander passed away at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 63.
Charles was born in Winchester on May 24, 1953 to his parents Ronald and Margaret Alexander (nee Carruthers).
He would reminisce about helping his grandfather with his canteen truck or helping out at the family restaurant Alexanders Light Lunch. He attended school at Winchester Public as well North Dundas District High School and went on to take one semester at Algonquin College for Instrumentation.
After his time at Algonquin College, Charles began working at Ault Foods and continued his employment there during their transition to Parmalat until 2002, where he was unable to work due to deterioration of his spinal discs.
Charles began dating Linda out of high school, and they moved to Elma and were married on May 6, 1978. They had one son, Eric in June of 1984.
Charles treasured time spent in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
When he wasn’t out in the bush, the field or driving around looking for deer, he was watching tv or reading to improve his hunting and fishing skills.
Charles enjoyed spending time with friends, driving around in his old cars, playing cards and loved to tease and tell jokes. He also liked to do small wood projects in the shop or creating things to make tasks easier.
Charles is survived by his wife Linda Alexander (nee Dingwall), his son Eric (Amanda) of Williamsburg, his siblings Linda Barnhart (David) of Winchester, Lorraine Alexander (Keith Bottema) of Kanata and David Alexander (Gisele) of Cornwall, his step-sister Victoria Allison (Kirk) of Winchester Springs, his step-father Frank VanWylick of Chesterville and his in-laws Floyd Dingwall (Esther) of Finch, Eldred Dingwall (Rita) of Nepean, Shirley Lang of Long Sault, Winston Dingwall (Connie) of Berwick, Melissa Jackson (Ken) of Berwick, Ross Dingwall of Finch, Harold Dingwall of Berwick, Ronnie Dingwall (Lucie) of Newington, David Dingwall (Allynn) of Lunenburg, Helen Wall (Darrell) of Calgary and Gloria McMonagle of Ingleside.
He was predeceased by his mother Margaret VanWylick, his father Ronald Alexander, his father-in-law Lynden Dingwall, his mother-in-law Leila Dingwall, his sister-in-laws Muriel Dingwall, Isobel Allison and his brother-in-laws Ken Dingwall, Archie Lang, Brian Allison and Brian McMonagle and his nephew Jodie Dingwall.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg, on Sunday, March 26th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held at the Funeral Home on Monday, March 27th at 11 a.m., with Rev. Lois Gaudet officiating. Spring interment of cremated remains will be at New Union Cemetery in Williamsburg.
Honorary pallbearers were: Richard Dingwall, Dale Dingwall, Rodney Dingwall, Mark Jackson & Lindsey McMonagle.
