Linda Whitteker

A lifetime resident of the Williamsburg area, Linda Whitteker passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, following a brief illness. She was 58.

Linda was born in Winchester on August 4, 1957, to her parents Lorne and Shirley Empey (nee Casselman).

She attended Dixon’s Corners Public School and Seaway District High School.

In 1983, she began driving a school bus for Whittaker Bus Lines.

She drove mentally handicapped children and high school students for the next 31 years. In the last few years she began driving the special needs adults to the Community Living Workshop, in Morrisburg. She lovingly referred to her bus route as the “happy bus”.

In 1985, she married Lawrence “Tank” Whitteker at the United Church in Brinston, Ontario.

Their home was always open to friends and family.

Many evenings were filled with laughter and love sharing a few drinks and card games with whoever stopped in.

When Linda was not driving she enjoyed working in her flower beds, knitting and crocheting.

Her bird feeders were always full so she could enjoy the antics of the hummingbirds and finches and other feathered friends.

Linda loved all animals and admitted that her dog and cat might have been a little spoiled.

The last few years her camera was never far away. She liked to take pictures of all the wildlife she found on her daily bus route and backyard.

While Linda never had children of her own, she was greatly loved by all her nieces and nephews,  some of which thought of her as a second mom.

Linda is survived by her husband Lawrence “Tank” Whitteker, her mother Shirley Empey and  her sister Lois Moore of Ottawa.

She was predeceased by her father Lorne Empey and her brother Dale Empey.  She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Funeral service was held at the Funeral Home on Saturday, July 23rd at 11 a.m., with Rev. Brian Barr officiating.

Interment followed at New Union Cemetery, Williamsburg.

Pallbearers were Allison Moore, Jessie Moore, Rob Hampton, Almon Whitteker, Jason Keeler and David Laliberté.

Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
