Counties wraps up budget deliberations

The Council of the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry completed its review of the draft 2017 budget estimates on February 22nd, 2017.

Overall, the 2017 budget will generate approximately $44 million tax dollars, representing an inflationary increase of 1.8%, or $22, on the average residential property in SDG.

The annual budget is the key policy document for the counties, approving all operational items and capital projects for 2017.

Among the key factors influencing the 2017 budget was significant new assessment growth of over $500,000.

The $22 increase is only on the Counties portion of property tax bills.

Changes to the South Dundas portion of property tax bills remain unknown as budget deliberations are ongoing.
