The Municipality of South Dundas is restructuring its water and sewer operations, and that is not without fallout.
This restructuring has resulted in the elimination of the supervisor of water and wastewater operations.
South Dundas treasurer and chief administrative officer Shannon Geraghty this week confirmed the departure of Ian Kemp, who held the position created in 2013, when South Dundas brought water and wastewater operations in-house.
“It’s really just about a restructuring from within,” he told The Leader Monday.
“The position became redundant based on restructuring.”
“There are no issues operationally,” said Geraghty, adding that until the restructuring is complete, public works manager Chris Bazinet will be more hands on with the water and wastewater operations.
Asked if the municipality was looking at contracting out these services, Geraghty said he could neither confirm nor deny that fact.
In June 2013, South Dundas took over direct management of water and sewer services, a job that they had previously been contracted to Caneau Water and Sewer Operations Inc.
“We are not looking at going back to that structure,” said Geraghty. “We need to maintain hands on operation of our water and wastewater services.”
He would not elaborate further, saying that a restructuring plan will be discussed in more detail at an upcoming council meeting.
