MORRISBURG – Alight at Night is back, albeit modified due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Like Pumpkinferno held in October, the St. Lawrence Parks Commission-run event will have staggered entry and online-only ticketing in place this year.
“While the holiday season will undoubtedly look different this year, Upper Canada Village is continuing its annual tradition with the assistance of public health to ensure safety is a priority,” said the SLPC in a media release November 23rd as ticket sales launched.
This year, the Village’s Victorian Saint Nick will prepare for Christmas in his new winter workshop, while greeting visitors as they enter Alight at Night. After Christmas, visitors will get to see Santa with his feet up, relaxing after a busy holiday season.
Many of the activities that are part of the normal holiday season will be put on hold this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic including: toy train rides, visiting the bakery, wagon rides, and carol singing at the church. Instead, visitors will be treated with the return of the light and sound show at Crysler Hall, and “enhanced visual storytelling illuminations” at both the cheese factory and the church. Romantic private carriage rides through the village booked for an extra fee will still be available at Alight at Night.
Returning this year will be accessibility nights, held on December 9th and 16th. Tickets for these two nights only can be booked via SLPC’s customer service department at 613-543-4328 or 1-800-437-2233.
The village store and BeaverTails will both be open as well during the event.
“Our team is overjoyed that a visit to Alight at Night can continue this year as part of so many families holiday traditions,” said UCV manager Tracey Ogilby. “We look forward to welcoming back guests and local residents again this winter season.”
Alight at Night will run from November 27th to January 2nd, 2021. Between November 27th and December 13th, the event runs Thursdays to Sundays between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Beginning December 17th through to January 2nd, Alight at Night will be open seven-days-a-week, except for December 24th and 25th.
