Lions win high scoring opener against Wolves

MORRISBURG – A pair of goals in the second period, and four goals by the team’s captain, made the difference as the South Dundas Lions Bantam B Rep team edged out the Akwesasne Wolves 7-6 in the season opener October 7th.

The Wolves took an early 2-0 lead off goals by Ielli Thompson and Bryli Arquette in the first period. Lions goal scorers Jordan Heuff (unassisted) and Wyatt Barkley (from Monty Dejong) tied the game 2-2 less than a minute later.

Heuff put South Dundas into the lead with less than three minutes left in the period, but the Wolves scored an equalizer 30 seconds later. The teams were tied 3-3 at the start of the second period.

Akwesasne scored less than five minutes into the second period to regain the lead 4-3.

Heuff added his third goal of the night (from Alek Larocque), tying the game back up, less than 40 seconds later. Seb Lafrance (from Barkley) scored the go-ahead-goal for the Lions with 5:30 remaining in the period.

The Lions took a 5-4 lead into the third period and held on for the win. Unassisted goals by Caden Holmes and Heuff kept the Lions ahead of the Wolves who kept pace throughout the remainder of the game. Goalie Aiden Hutt earned his first win of the season in net for the Lions.

The team heads down to Cardinal October 10th to take on the South Grenville Rangers. They host the Perth Blue Wings October 14th.
