IROQUOIS – Seaway traffic was blocked at the Iroquois Lock for about a day last week. Wednesday, April 3, at 2:45 p.m. the CSL Laurentien made contact with the ship arrestor cable causing damage.

The damaged arrestor can be seen to the right of the crane. Crews went to work on affecting repairs.

Andrew Bogora, communications and public relations specialist with the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation told The Leader that repairs should be concluded by noon Thursday April 4. Asked if the strong winds that day were a factor in the incident Bogora said: “As the investigation into the incident has not yet been completed, I cannot comment as to the cause.”

The ship was upbound and departed the lock heading west.

The 2019 opening of the navigation season, which is the 60th anniversary season, was celebrated March 26th.
