Time to cheer on the home team: Let the firefighter games begin

This coming weekend may be one of the biggest weekend’s Iroquois has ever seen.

Not only is the Galop Canal Bluegrass Festival set to fill the park at the Iroquois Lock with visitors and the sound of bluegrass and country music, South Dundas Fire and Emergency Services’ Iroquois station is going to fill the streets with Eastern Ontario Firefighters as they play host to the 104th annual EOFA convention and games.

The most entertaining part of the weekend for spectators will be the field day events which will take place Saturday, throughout the day, along Beech Street between Elizabeth Drive and College Street.

The games get started Saturday, at 9 a.m. with a Department of National Defence flyover. The games wrap up about 4 p.m. with a parade and awards to follow at 7 p.m.

Last year, the Iroquois team finished second overall in the games.

Iroquois is hosting the convention and games this year, which is the Iroquois’ Fire Department’s 75th anniversary.
