Backstopped by a shutout performance from goaltender Brendan Shaver, the North Dundas Demons won the Upper Canada Minor Hockey League’s Peewee B Rep championship here Monday night, March 28, with a 4-0 victory over the Kemptville Panthers.
The Peewee B Rep Demons are a combined team of players from the North and South Dundas Minor Hockey Associations. These players came together for a spectacular season that saw them crowned East Division Regular Season Champs, the Most Sportsmanlike Team, the East Division Playoff Champs and now the overall UCMHL champs.
The Demons also won tournament championships in Arnprior and Renfrew.
Representing the South Dundas Association on the team were goaltender Brendan Shaver, Ben Lapier, Owen Fetterly, Josh Broad, Emytt Fetterly and Nolan Henry.
The UCMHL championship series opened Monday, March 21 in Winchester, with a 6-3 Demons win.
Game two was played Tuesday, March 22, in Kemptville, and resulted in the Demons claiming a 6-1 win to go up four points to zero in the five point championship series.
In game three in Winchester, on Wednesday, March 23, the Panthers stayed alive i and pushed the series to a fourth game when they doubled the Demons, 6-3.
Game four was this past Monday night, March 28, in Winchester and it started with a scoreless first period.
The Demons got on track with a pair of second period goals from Ben Lapier for a 2-0 lead.
The first was assisted by Cole Eikelboom, and the second was scored unassisted with two minutes left in the period.
In the third, Brendan Shaver continued to hold the Panthers off the scoreboard to earn his shutout, while Emytt Fetterly and Nolan Henry went to work on another pair for the Demons for 4-0 championship victory. Both goals were assisted by Lapier.
Lapier led the Demons to the opening game 6-3 win in Winchester on Monday, March 21, with two goals. Firing home singles were Mason Carr, Nolan Henry, Josh Broad and Adam Barkley.
In game two in Kemptville, on Tuesday, March 22, Mason Carr provided two Demons goals, while Lapier and Cole Eikelboom contributed singles for the 4-1 victory.
With the Demons up fours points to zero and looking to put it away in game three back home in Winchester, on Wednesday, March 23, the Panthers hung on with a 6-3 win led by a three-goal performance from Nicholas Campeau.
Scoring for the Demons in the loss were Lapier, Emytt Fetterly and Cole Eikelboom with Adam Barkley contributing a pair of assists.
The Demons goaltending was shared by Shaver and Jordan Papineau who provided some great play and were major contributing factors in the Demons successful season.
