CWL hosts St. Patrick’s Day Bazaar

Green was the colour to be wearing as the Catholic Women’s League held their annual St. Patrick’s Day Bazaar at the Morrisburg Legion on Saturday, March 12.

The bazaar, which has been a community event for close to a century, raised nearly $2,000 for the CWL’s charitable efforts.

“We couldn’t have asked for nicer weather,” said Catherine Lortie, president of the CWL. “At least 30 volunteers were out helping us today and with the set up last night. The crowds have been steady.”

Besides baking, jams and jellies, crafts, books, plants and interesting odds and ends, the bazaar served up a lunch of sandwiches, squares or a salad bar.

“The lunch was very nice, as usual,” said visitor Gloria Foot. Lunch tables were busy all day.

“The funds we raise go to bursaries for St. Joe’s, St. Michael’s and Seaway District High School students,” Catherine explained. “We also give gifts to our grade eight grads, and to children on the occasion of their first communion and confirmation. The CWL also sponsors a family in India, the Food Bank and the Christmas Exchange.”

The chair of the 2016 St. Patrick’s Bazaar, Jessica Lortie, had a big thank you for the kitchen staff and all the volunteers “for your hours of hard work. We also want to thank everyone in the community who supported us at our event today.”
