Atom B Reps Nab Demons

The “Mile One Mobile” Atom B Rep Lions got an early jump on the visiting North Dundas Demons, as they skated to a 7-3 win here, Saturday, November 28.

The Lions took a 1-0 lead midway into the first period when Nick Connors banged a rebound past Demons goaltender Nolan Henry. Henry had made the first two saves on Kloe Lewis and Cam Shaver but was unable to deny Connors.

Monty Dejong almost made it 2-0 about a minute later when he was denied on back to back opportunities by Henry.

Connors struck for his second goal of the period with 3:02 left on the clock.  After receiving a pass from Shaver, “Nicky” chipped the puck past the Demons d-man, skated down the wing, and used his wrist shot to go top shelf on Henry.

The Lions would head to the second up 2-0.

The Lions broke the game open in the second.

First Shaver struck on the power play, when he rushed the puck down the ice, then fired a nice low shot past Henry.

Cameron Lynch was the first to solve the Lions Quade Mullin (2:59 left in the second).

Dejong (from Sam Connors) went short side just 17 seconds later to regain the three-goal cushion, and Cooper McCooeye finished off a beautiful three-way passing play at the 50 second mark to put the Lions up 5-1.  Dejong made the first pass to Sam Connors who “threaded the needle” to McCooeye.

This line continued to pressure the puck and they were rewarded again just 26 seconds later, when McCooeye (from Dejong) scored to make it 6-1.

The Lions got away from playing “Lions hockey” for a short time to open the third, and they paid for it.  Stewart capitalized on a turnover at the Lion’s blue line to make it 6-2.

Then things got interesting when Jordan Heuff struck again for the Demons 21 seconds later to pull within three.

Fortunately the Lions regained their form for the final eight minutes.  They made the final 7-3 after “Sammy” picked up his 3rd assist of the game on Dejong’s second goal with 59 seconds remaining.

Keys to the victory were a balanced offensive attack and great team defence.

Lions centreman Monty Dejong was named the “Game Champ” for his great two way game and for making some nifty passes to his teammates.

The Lions will hit the road Tuesday to take on undefeated Char-Lan.  Then they will head to Brockville for a tournament on the weekend.
