Ladies Night Out big success

“I am extremely pleased, really delighted,” said Debbie Boardman, executive director of Community Living, Dundas County. “We raised $8,300 for our projects, including the matching fund of $3,000 presented to us by our corporate sponsor, Scotiabank.”

The seventh annual Ladies Night Out, presented by Community Living, Dundas County, held at the Matilda Hall on October 22, 2015, drew nearly 200 attendees and over 25 vendors.

“We actually ended up setting up more tables,” said Marlene Lewis, executive assistant. “It was great.”

With music provided by Claude Plamandon, delicious food and desserts at every table,  the latest in fashion, jewellery, cosmetics, purses, watches, soaps and scents, there was something to interest everyone.

According to Debbie Board-man, there were more vendors at the event than ever before. Some were returning, but others like Smokie Ridge Winery, were taking part for the first time.

Lisa Williams of the Main Street Clothing Company, Winchester, and Helen Dereks of Juli Fashion Essentials, Morrisburg, presented a contemporary fashion show as part of the evening’s festivities.

Tammy Mudde, emcee for the  gala evening, has volunteered her time and talents for the last seven years.

In her remarks to the crowd, Marja Smellink, president of the Community Living Board of Directors, said that she was “amazed at the support we’ve received. There has been so much hard work by all the staff and volunteers, and it has paid off.

We also had the wonderful help of Scotiabank this year, and I really want to thank them. I think people have had a fun and interesting evening tonight.”

Guests Lynda Leader of Iroquois and Rhonda St. Louis of Cardinal echoed this view.

“I love this event,” said St. Louis, while Leader said, “This is my seventh visit. I never miss Ladies Night Out.”

The $8,300 raised by Ladies Night Out is earmarked for three key projects at the Community Living facility.

The George Davidson Family Resource Fund provides training, communication supports, respite and many other much needed resources to families of children and adults with an intellectual disability.

The Snoezelen Room is a multi sensory room open to anyone in the community, providing a comfortable and safe environment.

Agency transportation needs are also helped by the fund raiser.
