Asbestos Removal, Community grants on Council’s agenda

At the September 1, 2015, council meeting, Council authorized the cost of $38,650 plus HST submitted by C.M.G. Innovation Company Limited for the removal of asbestos from the old Morrisburg Parks building.

Razing the decades old structure remains on hold until the asbestos in the building is safely taken out.

“The contractor says it will take a month to remove the asbestos,” said Geraghty. “Once that is done, the building should be down by the end of October. The money will come from the Assets Reserve Fund.”

Also at the September 1, 2015 meeting, a submission from the Williamsburg Community Association requesting a donation of $1,000 from  council, in support of the Williamsburg Harvest Festival, September 19-20, was approved by councillors.

This is the same amount that was requested last year and was granted at that time.

Council also approved a request from the South Dundas Fun Run Committee for $300 to be used as a prize at their October 18 run. The committee’s aim is to promote wellness and to offer the money as “an incentive to the school(s) or community group(s) that bring out the most participants to the Fun Run.”

The money raised through the Fun Run go toward the enhancement of the South Dundas community playground and splashpad.
