Francis passed away at home with his loving family at his side after a courageous 10 year battle with several cancers, on November 23, 2016. He was 68 years old.
Francis was born on November 28, 1947 to his late parents, Lorne and Olive Henderson, as well as his brother Robert and Uncle Charles Leach.
He is survived by his beloved wife Doreen and two daughters, Tracy (Porteous) and Tammy (Mudde), a brother Terry and five grandchildren; Bruce, Cassidy, Felicity, Olivia and Terrence.
Francis married his wife Doreen (nee Farrell) May 17, 1969 at South Mountain United Church.
He was self-employed on his family farm, Terrdale Farms, directly out of high school and became a partner with his dad.
He had an overwhelming love for Holstein cattle and the utmost respect for the land he worked.
He especially liked working with Dean Williams, his crop consultant and Kevin Leeder, who he purchased seed from.
They became great friends but more than that they were always there for him when he couldn’t do what needed to get done, together with his brother Terry.
Francis loved to make hay with his family on those hot summer days well into Fall.
He loved every aspect of farming and other than a few short trips with friends, he was always at home.
He loved to visit at the Shop and at the barn with neighbours and friends.
He was always a fair, optimistic, honest and down to earth man who treated everyone he met with respect.
He will always be remembered as a loving husband, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and especially a grandfather.
He had a great sense of humour and loved playing pranks on people.
He was an extremely hard worker and a teacher to those that were employed by him. He was a tough guy and fought a hard battle with cancer.
He loved Dodge trucks, Holstein cows, New Holland tractors, and Pioneers seeds.
Those seeds, together with good land, helped make him a winner at the local seed shows year after year.
Over the years, he also spent time volunteering as a local 4-H leader, a member of the cemetery board and various church events. Francis was a family man, first and foremost.
He was supportive of and found time to be involved in whatever his family was into.
Friends called at the Marsden-McLaughlin funeral home in Williamsburg on November 27th, 2016.
Funeral service was held Monday November 28th, 2016 at the Brinston United Church, followed by interment at the Spruce Haven Cemetery east of Brinston.
Pallbearers were Dean Williams, Kevin Leeder, Wendell Ault, Bill Farrell, Robert Henderson, Wayne Hutt, Brian Loucks and Terrence Mudde. Honorary pallbearers were Doug Coons, George Panciuk and Lyle Beckstead. Online condolences may be made at marsdenmclaughlin.com
Doreen and family say they have been so very blessed to have loved him and had him with us all these years. “We aspire to be like our mentor. What a wonderful tribute to his life at both the wake and funeral. Rest in peace Francie.”
