Dorothy Van Allen

A lifetime resident of the area, Earl Brown passed away at the Carefor Hospice in Cornwall, on Thursday, February 28, 2013. He was 73.

Earl was born at home in Morewood, on April 23, 1939, to his parents Stanley and Violet Brown (nee James). As a child, he worked on the family farm while attending Morewood School.

In 1958, the family relocated to Glenn Becker where they ran the Brown’s Service Station.

Earl and Carole (McHaffie of Glen Becker) were married on September 3, 1960, and moved down the road to Froatburn. During this time, Earl worked for The Department of Highways (Iroquois). 

In 1966, Earl and Carole, and one-year-old son Andrew, moved to Nudell Bush. Shortly after the move, Earl started work at the Rohm and Haas Plant in Morrisburg where he remained until his retirement in 1994.

Earl started playing hockey when he was 16, not knowing then that his passion for the sport would become the foundation of his existence. He started playing organized hockey in 1955, at age 16. He played with the Morrisburg Juveniles in 1955 and 1956, and then with the Winchester Juniors from 1956-1960. From there, he played Intermediate hockey with Winchester from 1960-69. He led the team in scoring in 1965-66-67 and won the St Lawrence scoring title in 1965-66.

Earl loved his hockey and hockey took him to many places, Nashville, the Yukon, Las Vegas, Florida and many cities in Ontario. 

One of his highlights was playing in a gold medal game for the Cornwall Hubs at the old Montreal Forum in 1987.

Earl enjoyed many sports activities such as broomball, baseball, golf, fishing, hunting and cheering for his Detroit Red Wings.

Earl is survived by his wife Carole, his son Andy (Cindy) Brown of R.R. # 1 Morrisburg, his grandson Ryan Brown and his siblings Ralph Brown of Morrisburg and Mildred Brown of Windsor. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Violet Brown (nee James). 

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg, on Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. Funeral service was held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 6th, at 11a.m., with Rev. Geoff Howard officiating. Interment will be held in the spring at Maple Ridge Cemetery, Chesterville.

Pallbearers were Ryan Brown, Brodey Casselman, Len Bellamy, and Pete Clement.

A resident of Woodland Villa Nursing Home, Long Sault, for the past 7.5 years, Ross Collison passed away there on Sunday, September 4, 2011. He was 91.

Ross was born in Iroquois, on May 22, 1920, to his parents Samuel and Isophene Collison (nee Barkley). He lived his entire life on the broken second.

Ross will be fondly remembered for his love of bicycling and the fact that he loved to buy and sell watches.

Ross is survived by his sister-in-law Myrtle Collison of R.R.# 2 Iroquois and by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.  He was predeceased by a sister Susan Moore and brothers Brock and Dwight.    

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Iroquois, on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.  Funeral service was held at the funeral hHome on Thursday, September 8th at 11 a.m., with Rev. Janet Evans officiating.  Interment followed at Spruce Haven Cemetery, Brinston.
Pallbearers were Billy Collison, Gary Collison, Dustin Martin, Calvin Collison, Melissa Kennedy and Amy Collison.

A lifetime resident of the Williamsburg area, Eva Colqhoun passed away at the Cornwall Community Hospital on Tuesday, December 3, 2013.  She was 79.

Eva was born in Williamsburg Township, on September 15, 1934, to her parents George and Lillian Colquhoun (nee Stillson). 

Eva was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend whose main focus in life was her family.  

She will be fondly remembered as a hard working lady who always had a smile on her face.   

Eva is survived by her daughters Marilyn (Gordon) Andrusiak of Ottawa and Debbie (Richard) Mackay-Smith of Kingston, and by her siblings Marion Johnston of Boucks Hill, Helen (Clair) Empey of Williamsburg, Edna (Lee) Barkley of R.R.# 2 Chesterville, Riley of R.R.# 2 Williamsburg and Dorothy Lapierre of Morrisburg.

Eva will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Michael (Claire), Matthew (Allie), Jennifer, Corey (Melissa), Leanne and great-grandchildren Ava, Olivia, Emma and Zoey. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.  

Eva was predeceased by her brother Sanford, his wife Jackie and her brothers-in-law Ferneley Johnston and George Lapierre.       

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  Funeral Service was held at the funeral home on Saturday, December 7th at 11 a.m., with Rev. Isabel Black officiating. 

Interment was at New Union Cemetery, Williamsburg.  

Pallbearers were Dale Casselman, Gary Barkley, Jim Crowder, Carl Lapierre, Doug French and Adam Barkley.
