A lifetime resident of the Morrisburg area, Donald Sypes passed away at the St. Lawrence Lodge in Brockville on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, following a lengthy battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was 80.
Donnie was born in Matilda Township on December 24, 1935 to his parents Clifford and Eunice Sypes (nee Kinnear). Growing up he enjoyed playing baseball and hockey and watching his favourite team the Toronto Maple Leafs on television.
On June 22, 1968 he married Tina Blok and in 1969 they welcomed their daughter Laura and in 1974 their son Steven.
Donnie enjoyed gardening and yard work. He looked forward to the family trips to Daytona Beach, Florida and he always wanted to go back.
Donnie worked for Ronald Hummel construction for 23 years and 11 years at Upper Canada Village.
Donnie is survived by his wife Tina Sypes (nee Blok), his children Laura Hummel (Joe) and Steve Sypes, his siblings Irene Black of Morrisburg and Gordon Sypes of Pembroke.
Donald will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Matt (Jen), Tanner, Chelsea and his great-grandson Finnley.
He was predeceased by his sisters Iva St. Pierre, Lillian Ross, Erma Casselman and his brothers Doug, Ersel and Denzil Sypes. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg, on Sunday, July 10th from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held at Lakeshore Drive United Church, Morrisburg, on Monday, July 11th at 11 a.m., with Rev. Janet Evans officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery, Mariatown. Pallbearers were his grandsons Matt Hummel and Tanner Hummel.
