A lifetime resident of the area, Joyce Young passed away at the Ottawa General Hospital on Friday, April 22, 2016. She was 78.
Joyce was born in Chesterville, on May 5, 1937, to her parents Percy and Dorothy Hall (nee St. Pierre). She was raised in Chesterville, along with her four sisters and four brothers. She attended Chesterville Public School.
Joyce met Beverly Young at Ray and Betty Hall’s wedding. On June 29, 1957, they were married at Chesterville United Church and together they had four daughters and four sons.
Following work in Toronto for a short period of time, Joyce moved back home and worked at RCA in Brockville, until she married Beverly.
She was a stay at home mother for her eight children, and re-entered the work force in 1971.
Joyce worked in a variety of positions including: Smith’s Apple Orchard, Caldwell Linen Mills, Canadiana Pottery, Kemptville Nursery.
She ended her career at Winchester Cheese in May 1996.
Joyce was a lifelong member of Williamsburg United Church. She and Beverly were also members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 434 in Chesterville. She was a member of the Chesterville Bowling League. Joyce and Beverly enjoyed dancing every weekend for many years.
A devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Joyce is survived by her children: Barry (Sandy) of Chesterville, Cindy Symonds (Dwight) of Ottawa, David Young (Darlene McMillan) of Morrisburg, Beverley Young (Robert Vanderveen) of Williamsburg, Curtis (Marie) of Lyn, Bruce (Faye) of Mountain, Sharon Young (Neil Strader) of Glen Becker and Sandy Young (Serge Berube) of Winchester.
She was dear sister of Odalene Bowers (Clifford) of Mississauga.
She was predeceased by her husband Beverly, her granddaughter Tanya Hill, her sisters Theresa McMillan, Grace McGillivray, Pearl Stewart and her brothers Bernard, Ray, Harold and Dwayne Hall.
Joyce will be fondly remembered by 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg, on Monday from 6-9 p.m. and Tuesday, April 26th from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11 a.m.
The service was conducted by Rev. Christine Lowson. Interment followed at Maple Ridge Cemetery, Chesterville.
Pallbearers were grandsons Derek Durant, Jason Hill, Travis Vanderveen, Dustin Young, Cole Young, Brandon Young, Chase Young and Cody Young.
