Hubert Lapierre

A resident of Iroquois, for the past seven years, Hubert Lapierre passed away peacefully at the Cornwall Hospice with his family by his side on Thursday December 3, 2015.  He was 87.

Hubert was born in Brinston, on March 22, 1928, to his parents Wilfred and Molly Lapierre (nee Merkley).

As a young man, Hubert worked out west on farms before settling in Montreal, where he met Joyce Telfer. They were husband and wife for over 56 years.

Hubert was a long time valued employee of Air Canada for over 27 years. Raising four children in Pincourt, the family enjoyed much laughter and loved to entertain in their home.

Summers were spent at Camp Four Winds with many, many good friends: enjoying the lake, cribbage on the beach and nights around a campfire. Hubert and Joyce happily retired to his hometown, Brinston where they spent time with old friends and family.

With Joyce’s passing, Hubert moved to Arnprior, Ontario, with a dear friend Bev Cropp. They spent a year there and Hubert made more new friends.

Finally, settling back in Iroquois, five years ago Hubert met Joan Saver who became a dear companion. He loved Joan, and she made him very happy. Hubert’s family will always be grateful to Joan for her love and kindness to him.

Hubert was a cherished grandfather to 11 and great-grandfather to six, and he made an everlasting impression on each of them as a fair and honest man with great integrity, always with a quiet strength…and a little humour. They will never, ever forget their Papa.

In recent years, his children took care of their beloved Dad; making sure he knew he could count on them as he had always been there for them.

Hubert loved a good card game, country music, good food and having family close by. He was a happy, gentle man with an easy smile and a kind word for anyone he met.

During his illness Hubert received incredibly compassionate care from Dr. Saad Abbud in Iroquois, the CCAC and the Cornwall Carfor Hospice.

Hubert is survived by his loving companion Joan Saver of Iroquois,  and his children Susan Tuff (David) of Pincourt, Bill (Susan Lovett) of Pierrefonds, Janet Forsyth of Arnprior and Barbara Lapierre ( Brian Coffin) of Pincourt.

He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Benjamin, Kate, Gillian (Tuff), Chris, Allison, Stephanie (Lapierre), Samantha, James (Forsyth), Adam, Annie, Maggie (Coffin), and by his great-grandchildren Adara, Abby, Logan, Connor, Avery and William.

He will be dearly missed by his siblings Maynard of Toronto, Ronnie (Susan) of Toronto, Goldie Payne of Dunrobin and Peggy Lapierre of Toronto.

He is also adored by many extended family members.

He was predeceased by his wife Joyce Lapierre in 2003, his sister Eva Barkley and his brothers Joe, Beecher and Jim. Hubert was a dedicated family man and friend, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Iroquois, on Tuesday, December 8th from noon until time of the Memorial Service at 1 p.m. which was conducted by Brian Barr. A reception followed at the Iroquois Legion.

In lieu of flowers donations to Cornwall Hospice would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.  Online condolences may be made at marsdenmclaughlin.com.
