For the second consecutive year, golfers Jamie Scott and Brian McNairn have won the Legion District Golf Championship and will represent Morrisburg Legion Branch 48 at the provincial championship.
Scott and McNairn shot a two-under-par 70, (two-man best ball format) at the Upper Canada Golf Course on Saturday, July 25, to win the District, two strokes up on the second place team from Petawawa.
Also qualifying for the provincial championship to be hosted by Owen Sound Legion Branch 06 on Saturday, September 12, was the team of Mike Tobin and Shawn Lapier who were playing for Iroquois Legion Branch #370.
To get to the District, Scott and McNairn placed fourth in the Zone Tournament held at the Cloverdale Golf Links, north of Winchester, on Saturday, June 27. Their two-under-par 70 there, put them in the mix to advance to the District play at Upper Canada with six other ‘regular’ teams and three ‘senior’ teams.
At Upper Canada, Scott and McNairn went one under on the front nine with a pair of birdies on the par five second hole and par 4 ninth and a bogie on the par four, fourth hole (Upper Canada’s number one ranked hole for difficulty).
They were one under on the back nine, again with two birdies (on the par 4, 16th and 18th holes) and a bogie on the 15th.
In a two-man best ball, both golfers play their game, and the best score shot per hole are added up for the final team score.
Due to Scott and McNairn’s District win last year, the Morrisburg Legion hosted this year’s District tournament. Awards were presented at the Morrisburg Legion where a light lunch was also available.
