Sales of cleaning supplies and other commercial maintenance supplies have taken the owners of the Morrisburg Home Hardware store on an unexpected path to expansion.
“When we started here, we anticipated making the store’s cleaning section smaller, but sales in that area have really taken off,” said Lloya Sprague, who owns the store with her husband Dwayne.
Rather than just expand the section, the Spragues decided to use this as an opportunity to grow the business in a unique way.
They now have a storefront in the building beside the Home Hardware store thanks to a mutually beneficial partnership formed with Dennis Merkley and his Seaway Embroidery business.
The adjacent building now houses Home Hardware Commercial Maintenance retail space up front, Seaway Embroidery’s workspace and a small area for warehousing.
Merkley now runs his embroidery business from this new location and has been hired as Morrisburg Home Hardware’s commercial maintenance sales representative.
“This is great for both of us,” says Merkley. “The added traffic flow is helpful to both businesses, giving all of us more exposure.”
“We are the first Home Hardware in Canada to expand into the Commercial Maintenance line this way, in a separate building,” said Lloya. “So, Home Hardware is watching to see how this works.”
Lloya and Dennis urge everyone to drop by the new store, check out their products and pick up a catalogue to see some of the products they offer.
Lloya says there are many great benefits to their products, such as shopping locally and buying Canadian products from a Canadian company. There are no minimum order requirements. They have access to many products not available at regular retail locations, and can get most special order items within the week.
The Home Hardware/Seaway Embroidery store is open Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The wide range of Commercial Maintenance products includes supplies for janitorial and sanitation, safety products, facility maintenance products and food service supplies.
